Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) is a national scholastic and professional organization for financial
information professionals. The Phi Chapter of BAP has been serving Louisiana State
University and Greater Baton Rouge business communities since its inception in 1939 and is
the 21st oldest chapter in the country. The primary objective of BAP is to encourage and give
recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field. Our
members must have a declared major in accounting, finance, or ISDS. Members must also
have a 3.2 gpa both overall and in their major. We currently have 75 members and we are
looking forward to a new group of pledges in the upcoming year.
The 2007-2008 school year was very successful for the Phi chapter. We had a total
of 13 professional meetings covering topics such as “Proper Email/Computer Etiquette” and
”Auditing Financial Statements.” We also hosted our first annual kickball tournament in the fall
and will again host our traditional bowling tournament in the spring. One amazing adventure
this year has been Financial Literacy. Our entire chapter was involved in this enormous project
as teams of five or six students presented to Accounting Survey and Financial Accounting
classes on the topics of Credit Cards, Spending Wisely, and Investing. Over 300 hours of work
went into developing, practicing, and delivering presentations. After all of this hard work by the
membership, the Phi chapter officers were honored to represent our peers at the Beta Alpha
Psi regional conference in Charlotte, NC. The six officers participated in the Best Practices
competition by giving a presentation detailing what our chapter did to prepare the Financial Literacy
program. The Phi chapter is pleased to announce that it won the Best Practices competition
which entitles them to travel to Anaheim, CA to represent the Southeast Region and compete
at the national level. This was such a wonderful testament to the caliber of work of our
students in the organization. We look forward to as much success in the coming year through
new and innovative service projects and enhanced professional activities.
